Overall Purpose of Job
To assist and support the Infection Prevention Control Department in preventing and reducing Healthcare-Associated Infections (HCAI).
The Infection Prevention Control Coordinator’s role is to provide both clinical and administrative duties.
Key Responsibilities And Deliverables
- Assists with audit activities as assigned by the Infection Prevention Control (IPC) Manager or Infection Prevention Control Nurse.
- Assists with administrative duties such as minutes of meetings, agenda and audit reports.
- Assists with IPC surveillance activities such as collecting data/documents related to patients
- Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality of information and records at all times.
- Educates staff about a clean, safe environment, good infection prevention and control measures such as use of personal protective clothing (PPE), isolation procedures, contact precautions and transmission based precautions.
- Performs related duties as required.
- The timely identification and communication of any issues and complaints to the IPC Manager.
- Demonstrates a confidence and competence in all hospital policies and guidelines.
Qualifications
- Leaving Certificate or equivalent.
- Completion of an approved course for Health Care Assistants QQI Level 5 which includes Module on infection prevention control.
Experience
- Previous Health Care experience preferred.
