On Friday the 4th of October CIMA Ireland held a Future of Finance event in Thomas Prior Hall, Clayton Hotel, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4.
One of the key topics for the day was the importance of fighting climate change. Lisa Holt, Managing Director at Cpl and Cpl Green Works member, joined a panel made up of Tim O'Connell, Head of Advisory, Grant Thornton, Fearghal Carroll, CEO, CupPrint, Ian Thomson, FCMA, CGMA, University of Birmingham and Steve Swientozielskyj, CIMA Global Past President to discuss Accounting and Finance in times of Climate Crisis - the impact on the balance sheet and the P&L.
Lisa gave an insight into Cpl's sustainability journey and stressed the importance of leadership buy-in in implementing your organisation's sustainability goals.
'Without your CEO, CFO and your leadership team buying into making the business more sustainable, employee efforts won't work'. She also said 'people love a purpose, a goal to work towards outside of their normal day to day routine - it brings people together and gives them a sense of belonging and a great level of satisfaction around giving back'
Cpl's Green Works group was launched this year with an in-house training session for all employees and Green Works have been working with management to make Cpl a more sustainable business since.
Current initiatives in place include paperless onboarding, a commitment to waste reduction and recycling in all offices and the removal of single-use plastic cups and coffee cups from our Dublin offices.
