The Estimation Engineer plays a key role in planning, designing, and delivering asset development projects. Reporting to the Estimation Manager, this role involves producing detailed designs, cost estimates, identifying prerequisites (e.g., materials, permits), and applying standardized and bespoke design solutions. The position requires strong technical problem-solving skills, the ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams, and conducting site visits when necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare cost estimates and detailed distribution designs, ensuring compliance with processes.
- Assess project scope, identifying statutory and internal requirements (licenses, permits, planning, environmental factors, etc.).
- Conduct localized modeling analysis using Gasworks and Synergi software.
- Complete risk assessments, including ATEX and Environmental considerations.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution.
- Apply rate card data for cost accuracy and develop cost libraries for non-standard works.
- Conduct Net Present Value (NPV) analysis to determine customer contributions.
- Approve and sign off estimates/designs within the Estimation Team.
- Support financial approval processes by contributing to Expenditure Approval Committee (EAC) papers.
- Research network data, considering land development and regulatory requirements.
- Develop GIS-based design drawings and specifications, supporting data capture and QA/QC processes.
- Contribute to process improvements and cross-skilling initiatives within Project Services.
- Assist the Estimation Manager in managing estimation functions and customer-focused solutions.
Requirements:
- Engineering degree (Level 8) with 3+ years of relevant experience, preferably in the natural gas or a similar industry. Quantity surveying experience is an advantage.
- Strong understanding of engineering design, process safety, and risk management (e.g., Design Risk Assessments, H&S standards).
- Analytical mindset with commercial acumen and high computer literacy.
- Ability to take initiative, problem-solve, and work collaboratively within teams.
- Familiarity with gas standards, codes of practice, and statutory requirements is desirable.
