Student Services Manager
CPL have partnered with Northern Ireland Civil Service (NICS) to recruit for a Student Services Manager (SO Grade) to join their team on a temporary contract, with possibility of extension.
· Pay Rate - £17.94 per/hr
· Location – CAFRE, Greenmount Campus - Antrim
· Benefits – 37 days holiday per annum/Flexi
· Hours – 37 hours per week
Responsibilities will include
· Support the team and Student Support Services Manager in day to day running of Student Services.
· Manage the process of accommodation applications and room allocation for approximately 200 residential students.
· Manage incidents relating to residential students as they arise, including communicating with management, support services such as counsellors etc as appropriate.
· Implementing the CAFRE Learner Discipline Policy on campus and act as decision maker including issuing of penalties for lower-level offences.
· Undertaking the duties of Deputy Designated Person responsible for safeguarding children, young people, adults at of risk and adults in need of protection.
· Manage and develop a programme of extra-curricular activities to enhance their overall experience while enrolled on a college course. This includes a programme of activities to increase student awareness of relevant issues impacting on young people and to contribute to improving their health and wellbeing, adding to their personal development, and building their resilience. For example, awareness workshops (e.g. road safety, sexual health, alcohol and substance abuse), freshers fairs, wellbeing days.
· Manage the collation of data for the students accessing Student Services and the overseeing of the inputting of information on the Learner Management system (training will be provided).
· Take an active role in report writing, risk assessing and recording data.
· Liaise the Student Support Services Manager, Teaching Teams and Student Support over individual requirements of students in residence.
· Attend and contribute to regular team meetings, including annual review and planning meetings.
· Work in partnership with the CAFRE Campus Facilities manager (SO) (Greenmount) to ensure that facilities management within the College is maintained during periods of absence.
· A core requirement of the post is that the successful candidates will be required to work outside normal working hours including, early mornings, evenings, weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) and on public holidays. This will include staying overnight on Campus at least one evening per week during term-time
Student Representative Council
· Assist the students in establishing a Student Union and provide guidance, leadership and mentoring to the office bearers throughout the year.
· Liaise with the National Union of Student Body (NUS/USI) and the Student Representative Council to create external student links with other Colleges and Universities.
· Attend and assist at Student Representative Council meetings and oversee Student Representative Council planned events.
· Guide and support students with managing the Student Representative Council funds.
Staff Management
· Ensure that proper work procedures and work processes/controls are in place for an effective delivery of service.
· Ensure that all reporting staff have the necessary skills and tools to perform efficiently in their role (includes mentoring, performance reviews).
· Ensure that all reporting staff have the necessary equipment to meet Health & Safety regulations and that these regulations are complied with.
· Ensure that all reporting staff are kept informed, and that relevant information is disseminated in a timely manner.
Residential Support Team Management
· Plan rosters and manage the team of staff on evening duties to fulfil the duties of the Residential Support Team.
· Manage and develop the Residential Support Team to provide a pastoral care and support service to students in relation to their welfare and conduct whilst in residence.
· Ensure that Residential Support Team staff are adequately trained to undertake the role.
Financial Management
· Manage an income budget of £300k for student residential accommodation. This includes the management of debtors under the defined processes.
· Monitor for fraud and alert management if concerns arise.
· Develop and manage housekeeping stock and associated procedures.
The above list is not exhaustive but gives a good indication of the main duties of the post.
Essential Experience/Qualifications
At least a Higher National Diploma in Institutional Management, Hotel or Leisure Management, Business Management or Youth Work or a relevant equivalent qualification*.
AND
Hold a full current driving
Relevant or Equivalent Qualifications

Desired Experience/ Qualifications
Experience of working within a formal residential environment for young people (including experience of working with residents who are under 18 years of age).
