Student Support Officer
CPL have partnered with Northern Ireland Civil Service (NICS) to recruit for a Student Support Officer (SO Grade) to join their team on a temporary contract, with possibility of extension.
· Pay Rate - £17.94 per/hr
· Location – CAFRE, Greenmount/Loughry Campus
· Benefits – 37 days holiday per annum/Flexi
· Hours – 37 hours per week
Responsibilities will include
· Support the team and Student Support Services Manager in day to day running of Student Services.
· Co-ordinate and manage student support for all students including students with disabilities, learning difficulties and long-term medical conditions.
· Ensure that CAFRE meets its legal obligations in relation to compliance with the provisions of the Special Educational Needs and Disability (Northern Ireland) Order 2005.
· Support the process of assessment which identifies students' needs and informs strategies of appropriate support.
· Take an active role in report writing, risk assessing and recording data.
· Manage the collation of data for the students accessing Student Support and the overseeing of the inputting of information on the Learner Management system (training will be provided).
· Contribute to the monitoring, reviewing, and tracking of student progress and attending student progress reviews when required.
· Deliver scheduled sessions, or drop ins, to individual students or small groups with identified learning needs and keep clear and effective records of each support session, including outcomes and progress made.
· Liaise with parents and external agencies, where appropriate and in accordance with the Learner Agreement, to ensure individual support and a collaborated approach is taken.
· Undertake the duties of Deputy Designated Person responsible for safeguarding children, young people, adults at of risk and adults in need of protection ensuring the implementation of Safeguarding measures across CAFRE to comply with legal obligations.
· Liaise with DAERA policy branches, local and regional support services, statutory agencies and Colleges of Further and Higher Education to ensure provision of effective support for students.
· Manage and develop a programme of activities to increase student awareness of relevant issues impacting on young people and to contribute to improving their health and wellbeing, adding to their personal development, and building their resilience. For example, awareness workshops (e.g. road safety, sexual health, alcohol and substance abuse), freshers fairs, wellbeing days.
· Providing financial information to students in relation to student grants/loans and other potential sources of support and oversee the administration of student hardship funds at CAFRE.
The above list is not exhaustive but gives a good indication of the main duties of the post.
Essential Experience/Qualifications
At least one years’ experience of working in an educational setting which provides learning support to students over 16 years of age*.
AND
Hold a full current driving
Relevant or Equivalent Qualifications
Applications will also be considered from applicants with relevant formal qualifications considered to be of an equivalent or higher standard to those stated.
Relevant or equivalent qualifications: give the type of qualification and date awarded (the date awarded is the date on which you were notified of your result by the official awarding body). If you believe your qualification is equivalent to the one required, the onus is on you to provide the panel with details of modules studied etc so that a well-informed decision can be made.
Desired Experience/ Qualifications
At least two years demonstratable experience of working in an educational setting which provides learning support to students over 16 years of age and a strong understanding of, Special Educational Needs.
