Cpl are currently working with a leading Hospitality Group who are looking to hire a Financial Controller for one of their hotels in Laois.
Financial Controller
The Financial Controller will play a critical role in overseeing the financial operations and performance of the hotel. This position offers a unique opportunity to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, analyzing data, preparing financial reports, and providing strategic guidance to the management team.
Reporting to the General Manager with a dotted line in to Group Chief Financial Officer, the Financial Controller will provide business acumen to the General Manager and the Hotel Management team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervision and review of the work prepared by accounts team to include but not limited to – Accounts Payable/Receivable, Bookkeeping, Payroll, Cash and Bank Control and CSO returns.
- Manage the financial activities of the hotel, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting
- Preparation of monthly management accounts including Profit and Loss Account, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow.
- Preparation of daily, weekly and monthly revenue, labour and overhead reports.
- Perform regular financial analysis, identify trends, and provide insights to enhance profitability and control costs.
- Provide the General Manager, Senior Management team and Group Finance with timely and accurate reporting on all aspects of the past and forecasted performance of the business, including variance analysis.
- Collaborate with department heads to monitor and improve financial performance.
- To provide advice and guidance to Heads of Departments and other staff members on best practice financial control and provide support to all departments as a member of the senior management team.
- Develop annual budgets and financial forecasts in consultation with hotel management.
- Provide financial insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making.
- Provide comprehensive analysis and commentary to the management team.
- Establish and maintain robust internal control systems to safeguard assets, ensure accuracy of financial transactions, and prevent fraud.
- Conduct regular audits and implement corrective actions when necessary.
- Manage and lead the finance team, providing guidance, training, and support. Foster a positive work environment that promotes collaboration, high performance, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with all accounting standards, statutory requirements, tax regulations, and company policies. Liaise with external auditors and oversee the completion of audits and tax filings (to include but not limited to VAT, PAYE/PRSI, Corporation Tax etc) .
- Work with the Group finance function to ensure compliance within the finance team.
- Collaborate with senior management to develop and implement financial strategies aligned with organizational goals.
Qualifications and Experience:
- We are looking for ambitious, confident and professional individual with strong communication, organisational, analytical and management skills.
- System experience of Sun, Sage, Opera and Procure Wizard though not essential.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (a professional qualification is a plus).
- The ideal candidate will be a qualified accountant with 3 years PQE.
- The ideal candidate will demonstrate accounting experience, preferably in a hospitality, food & beverage environment or within the retail sector.
- Thorough knowledge of accounting principles, procedures, financial reporting, and budgeting.
- Strong knowledge of hotel financial operations, including revenue management, cost control, and financial analysis.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
- High level of integrity and ethical standards
- Proven track record of driving financial performance and achieving targets.
